Eliminating Reporting Lag with End-to-End Orchestration

Overview
Synogize partnered with a leading residential construction and home building organisation to modernise its data orchestration layer, enabling faster and more reliable end-to-end analytics. The organisation had a modern data platform in place but needed a more sophisticated orchestration approach to reduce lag between ingestion, transformation, and reporting.
About the Client
Our client operates in the residential construction and home building sector, where timely reporting supports operational visibility across domains such as Construction, IT, Warranty, and broader business performance.
The Challenge
While the organisation had already implemented a modern data platform built on Snowflake, Fivetran, dbt, and Power BI, orchestration was still managed through basic scheduling. Data moved through three disconnected schedules: one for ingestion, one for transformation, and one for reporting refresh, with no coordination between them. This created lag between data landing, transformation, and downstream reporting availability, limiting the organisation’s ability to support more frequent and reliable reporting refreshes. Heavy transformation models were running as full refreshes, increasing Snowflake runtime and compute cost, while semantic models also needed optimisation for faster refreshes and more collaborative development.
Our Approach
Synogize designed and built Orchestra pipelines to orchestrate the end-to-end data flow, from Fivetran ingestion through dbt transformations on Snowflake to Power BI reporting refreshes. Data was organised around key business domains, including Construction, IT, and Warranty, with built-in monitoring, alerting, and retry logic to keep everything running reliably.
In parallel, Synogize modernised how the client’s transformation layer was managed, moving it to run natively within the platform for better performance and maintainability. Key transformation models were uplifted to incremental processing, and reporting refreshes were similarly optimised, with improvements to how teams collaborated on report development.
Results
The modernised orchestration layer delivered:
- Faster, more reliable reporting: Ingestion, transformation, and reporting refreshes connected through Orchestra-managed pipelines, replacing three previously disconnected schedules with one coordinated flow.
- Reduced data lag: Data flows through aligned, coordinated pipelines across business domains, closing the gap between when data lands and when it’s ready to use.
- Improved runtime and cost efficiency: Key transformation models were uplifted to incremental processing across large gold-layer tables, reducing unnecessary full-refresh processing.
- Faster, more collaborative reporting: Improvements to how reports are developed enabled team-based collaboration and shorter dashboard refresh cycles.
